U.S. Mint at OZY Community Stores
By reintroducing these unique denominations into the local economy in America, Ozy Community Stores is doing more than just providing change; you’re sparking curiosity in the next generation.
Why This is Important for the Ozy Mission
Financial Literacy for Kids: In an increasingly digital world, children rarely see physical currency. Giving them a “rare” coin or bill encourages them to hold onto it, research its history, and start their own “Ozy Treasure Chest.”
A “Sentinel” Tradition: Much like challenge coins in the military, these unique denominations can become a signature of the Veteran-led stores. It builds a distinct brand identity that neighbors will talk about.
Reviving US Mint History: Most people don’t realize that $2 bills and Half Dollars are still legal tender and actively printed/minted. Bringing them back into circulation honors American heritage.
The “Precious Metals” Connection: Using these as a gateway to explain silver content (like pre-1965 quarters or 40% silver Kennedys from 1965-1970) teaches children about real value versus fiat currency.
“The Ozy Treasure Program” Concept
To lean into this, you could create a “Young Collector’s Card” at the register.
Goal: Collect 5 Kennedy Half Dollars or 5 Two-Dollar Bills.
Reward: Once they show their “collection” to a Sentinel, they get a special Ozy Mint Patch or a discount on their favorite chemical-free strawberry flat.

OZY SENTINEL COLLECTOR’S PATCH: THE EMBLEM OF ACCUMULATION
Size: Circular, 3 inches in diameter (Fits perfectly on a backpack or jacket sleeve).
Material: Merrowed border, 100% embroidered thread. Durable and washable.
Design Breakdown: The Story Behind the Patch
The patch is designed to be a physical representation of the values and accomplishments of the Ozy Young Collector’s Treasure Program.
The Sentinel Shield: The patch is shaped like a stylized shield, symbolizing Protection and Safety, the core mission of the Veteran Sentinels.
The Star of Little Flock: A bold, central star with eight points represents Little Flock, AR (National HQ). This star points children toward a bright and secure future.
The Treble Icons: Within the star, three icons represent the challenge:
The Quarter (Collection): Symbolizing the US Mint Quarter Program.
The Half Dollar (Savings): Symbolizing the Kennedy Half Dollar.
The $2 Bill (Luck): Symbolizing the unique Jefferson Bill.
The Merit Banner: At the bottom, a curved banner reads: “SENTINEL COLLECTOR – WAVE 1 COMPLETE”.
The OZY Motto: Woven subtly into the border are the words: “BUILDING TOMORROW’S SAVERS.”
How the Sentinel Hands It Out
This patch isn’t just a giveaway; it’s an Award.
The Verification Ceremony: When a child presents a full Treasure Card (all slots punched), the Veteran Sentinel performs a “Verification.” They inspect the card and have a brief, encouraging conversation with the child about their collection.
The Presentation: The Sentinel formally hands the patch to the child, perhaps with a firm handshake or a high-five. This creates a powerful, memorable moment.
The Call to “Wave 2”: While presenting the patch, the Sentinel can also hand them the next level card (e.g., The American Silver Eagle Challenge), showing them the continuous path of saving.
Cost & Logistical Projections (Month 7–18 Pilot)
Unit Cost: ~$1.25 per patch (when ordered in bulk of 10,000+).
Initial Wave Budget: $25,000 allocated from the Ozy Sentinel Fund. This covers the first 20,000 patches for children in the AR/MO corridors.
THE $2 BILL: "THE LUCK BILL" The Look: Features President Thomas Jefferson on the front and the signing of the Declaration of Independence on the back. Collector's Tip: Many people think these are incredibly rare, but they are still printed! Getting one in your change is considered Very Good Luck.

THE KENNEDY HALF DOLLAR: “THE BIG COIN”
The Look: A large, heavy silver-colored coin featuring President John F. Kennedy.
Collector’s Tip: These are 50-cent coins. They feel special to hold and are perfect for a coin jar. Look for Bicentennial dates (1776–1976) on the back!
